Until recently, I had dismissed the thought of making bread at home. Too difficult, I thought; too time consuming, too fiddly. People buy bread machines for that, I figured. But as the months passed by in sunny Sri Lanka, this little Aussie missed home more and more, and with thoughts of home came memories of smashed avocado on lightly toasted sourdough. It is the most tempting and evil of all the brunches, and the main reason that us millennials can’t afford houses.
